Xbox 360 – Microsoft’s Trojan Strategy win’s the battle for the living room

I’m an avid Gamer.  I’m a true Xbox fan, spending many hours playing Gears of War or Call of Duty.   But years ago I also recognized the Xbox strength as a Media Center.    I have a vast library of media that includes Music, photos and video that I share to my Xbox driven family room.  In recent years we’ve had to augment the entertainment unit with PS3’s and Wii’s but everyone still prefers to use the Xbox.

Well it seems I’m not the only one.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Microsoft shipped 1 million Xbox units.  1.7 Units for the entire month of November.    Xbox sales will reach 12 million for the 2011.  Wow that is amazing. in a number of ways.

1.  The Brand has a better “stickiness” about it than the other game consoles.  That means that more games are purchased for it than any other console.   That make it the preferred game console.  Now remember I can say that, I own both.

2.  Its also a multimedia device.  It provides a full services store that offers streaming HD content.  Its fully integrated with Netflix. etc….  So its far more than just a game unit.

Apple TV is recognized as the leader in TV integrated units.  However Apple will only sell 4 million units for 2011.

So Microsoft’s strategy of winning as a game console and providing additional content has proven to be a huge “secret” success.

Now if only Microsoft had not been so short sighted to only put in a friggin’ 20gb harddrive in the 1st generation units I would be a lot happier about this.
